NZE vs Ultra Pouches vs Optimal Native (2026): Which to Buy
Share
NZE vs Ultra pouches: both are popular nicotine-free energy and focus pouches in the US, and both sell a caffeinated and a caffeine-free line. But they are built very differently. NZE is a light 50 mg caffeine pouch; Ultra Energy has 180 mg. We added Optimal Native, our own three-part system, so you can see all three side by side. Our verdict: Optimal Native is the best pick for a full workday, NZE is the budget pick for a light lift, and Ultra is the pick if you specifically want paraxanthine.
We make Optimal Native, so this is a product comparison by the Optimal Native team. NZE facts come from NZE's website (nzepouches.com) and Ultra facts from Ultra's website (takeultra.com), both checked in October 2026. Optimal Native facts come from our product pages.
Quick verdict
- Best overall: Optimal Native. 200 mg caffeine in the morning, 75 mg caffeine with L-theanine, Cognizin® citicoline and Alpha-GPC during the day, and a stimulant-free evening pouch. Every active has its dose on the label.
- Best budget, lightest caffeine: NZE. 50 mg caffeine Energy pouches, or caffeine-free Focus pouches, with L-theanine, Alpha-GPC and L-tyrosine. About $7 a can in a 5-pack.
- Best if you want paraxanthine: Ultra. Ultra Focus uses Enfinity® paraxanthine instead of caffeine; Ultra Energy has 180 mg caffeine.
NZE vs Ultra Pouches: The Short Answer
Pick NZE if you want a gentle 50 mg caffeine pouch (about half a cup of coffee's worth, depending on the coffee) or a caffeine-free focus pouch at a low price per can. Pick Ultra if you want a strong single caffeine hit (180 mg) or a paraxanthine focus pouch. If you want one plan that covers morning, afternoon and evening with clear doses, pick Optimal Native.

Caffeine: 50 mg vs 75 mg vs 180 mg vs 200 mg
This is the biggest difference between the brands. NZE Energy is light at 50 mg. Optimal Native Daily Flow sits in the middle at 75 mg. Ultra Energy (180 mg) and Optimal Native Morning Energy (200 mg) are strong doses, roughly what many people get from a large coffee.
Strong is not always better. A 200 mg pouch makes sense once, at the start of the day. For the long middle of the day, a moderate dose with L-theanine is easier to manage. That is why Optimal Native uses 200 mg once and 75 mg after that: used as designed, the system adds up to 350 mg of caffeine a day, all before the evening. The FDA cites 400 mg a day as an amount not generally linked to negative effects in healthy adults, so count your coffee too. See how many mg of caffeine is too much.
Nootropics: What Is Actually in Each Pouch
All three brands use L-theanine, the amino acid often paired with caffeine for calm, alert focus (more in L-theanine and caffeine). All three also use Alpha-GPC in at least one product. The differences:
- NZE adds L-tyrosine, but the pages we checked do not say how much of each nootropic is in a pouch.
- Ultra Focus swaps caffeine for paraxanthine and adds ginseng. The amounts were not in the ingredient list we saw.
- Optimal Native Daily Flow lists every dose: 75 mg caffeine, 50 mg L-theanine, 50 mg Cognizin® citicoline, 50 mg Alpha-GPC and 50 mg NAD+. It is the only one of the three with citicoline.
Price per Can
On listed prices, NZE is the cheapest: a 5-pack at $34.99 works out to about $7 a can (15 pouches). Ultra lists $16 a can, or $48 for three. Optimal Native single cans are $12 for 20 pouches, and the 4-can stack starts at $49.99. Prices change and all three brands run bundles and subscriptions, so check each site for current offers.
Where Optimal Native Wins
1. Every dose on the label
You know exactly what is in each Optimal Native pouch, including the nootropics. That makes it easy to manage your caffeine and to judge what is working for you.
2. A daytime pouch with more working parts
Daily Flow combines a moderate caffeine dose with L-theanine, Cognizin® citicoline, Alpha-GPC and NAD+. NZE Energy has less caffeine and undisclosed nootropic amounts; Ultra Focus has no caffeine.
3. One plan from morning to evening
NZE has no evening pouch. Ultra sells Energy, Focus and Sleep as separate products. Optimal Native is designed and sold as one sequence: Morning Energy, two Daily Flow, then Evening Relax.
4. Built for fast absorption
Optimal Native pouches are designed for 2-5X faster absorption than swallowed caffeine. That is our brand claim, and it is why every stage of the system is a pouch.
